SOMERSET’S FIRST FEMALE FIREFIGHTER
Marion, a former long-standing resident of Nether Stowey, was the first-ever female firefighter to join the former Somerset Fire Brigade.
Marion and her late husband Bob, who was the Station Commander at Nether Stowey, used to live next door to the former fire station in Castle Street.
Marion was an on-call firefighter from 1961 to 1982 and after her retirement, she remained a part of the team by helping out at fundraising events for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Founder of The Marion Evered Trust
The Trust was established by Marion in 1974 following the sad loss of a young family member to leukaemia.
The family decided they wanted to help others and give something back to The Oak Children’s Ward at Musgrove hospital, so they started raising money through various events held throughout the year.
The Trust has currently raised over £100,000.
